Finish Location:  King & Royal Street (in front of GW Birthday Parade reviewing stands)

NOTE: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO FINISH THE MILE IN 12 MINUTES OR LESS.  ABSOLUTELY NO STROLLERS OR PETS.

Beat George!

A few minutes before the field takes off, we’ll be sending out “George Washington” to run his namesake event!  Our period-dressed runner will do his best to be the first to the finish with the pack chasing him along the route.  If George is passed, the first person to the line receives $50 in one dollar bills. Cheer for George as he races through his hometown of Alexandria and aims to beat a pack of running “rebels” . . . for the second time, of course . . .

Your packet contains: your race bib and your timing chip.  Please return your timing chip at the finish.  There is no premium for this event.
 
Pacers is located at the corner of King and Payne (considered “upper King Street”).  The race starts approximately 3/4ths of a mile from the start/finish line.  There is no race transportation to the start.

Bag Check

We will hold bags at Pacers Running Store - Alexandria.  There is no bag check located at the start/finish of the race.  You should plan on leaving your items with a friend/family member, in your car, or at Pacers. Any bag not claimed by February 16th will be discarded or donated to charity.

Timing

This event utilizes IPICO timing tags. You must wear your tag to be timed.  No tag = no time.  These tags must be returned at the finish.

Awards

Cash prizes to top males/females in event (gun time)
$100/$75/$50
 
First person (male or female) who beats George Washington receives $50 bonus.
 
Top male & female finishers in the following age categories will receive merchandise awards:
14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70 and over.
Note - Prizes are M/F and no duplicate prizes are allowed

PLEASE NOTE: the award ceremony will take place with the Parade award ceremony later in the afternoon (time TBD).  Awards not picked up at the ceremony will be available for pick up at Pacers of Alexandria.

Parking & Transportation

This run is along the parade route and crowds congregate very early. Therefore, it is important that you allow yourself plenty of time for parking and getting through the crowds to the start.  We strongly suggest parking near Pacers Alexandria (1301 King Street) and jogging to the start. If you park in designated parade parking areas (e.g. City Hall lot) YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO MOVE YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL AFTER THE PARADE.

Weather & Safety

Weather in February can be unpredictable. In the event of extreme weather conditions, the race organizers, as advised by the City of Alexandria Police and Fire/EMS Departments , reserve the right to cancel the race or run it as an untimed "Fun Run" without advance notice.
This includes conditions such as ice and harsh winter weather.

If this should be necessary:

• Participants will receive premiums (in accordance with registration policies)
• Prizes will be converted to random prizes
• No entry-fee refunds will be made
